This Ridging Hoe is very much sort after by gardeners and agricultural workers because it is perfect for making seed trenches with ease and speed, but also strong enough for making deep furrows into the ground for potato ridges or lazy beds as can be seen in the bottom photograph. Robustly manufactured with a strong centre rib for extra strength, this Ridging Hoe is made to last and far superior than any other of its kind on the market.

For those of you who arent sure what potato ridges or lazy beds exactly are because you grow potatoes in another way, potato ridges are mounds/ridges of your fertile soil in straight lines parralel to each other that allow your crop to be grown in deep soil which has perfect drainage either side for excess water and manure application. The trouble with growing root crops in flat soil is that there is always the chance of excess water affecting your crop, but the ridge system does away with that although takes up a larger area.

Potato ridges/lazy beds are perfect for growing most root crops and have been used since Saxon times and maybe earlier. Some people may refer to potato ridges as "Saxon Ridges" or "Lazy Beds". Give this system a try for your root crops, you certainly will not be disapointed.

Perhaps the most popular of the Chillington Hoes we have here as gardeners new and old can see by the shape of this tool that it has many uses, one gardener has told us he finds it perfect for planting "whips" (small trees).

The Ridging hoe is not intended for digging up virgin ground but for use on broken soil.
